Good Morning and Happy July!
It is now 5:17, Florida time. Yes, there really is a Florida time.
Sounds like I’m not originally from Florida………….you got that right!
Visiting a place and then living in the same place……..are two very, VERY, different states of mind.
Maybe, I really shouldn’t make comparisons. The “New York Minute” does not exist hidden in the palm trees.
Is living somewhere, you don’t care for, character-building?
The only member of the family who loves Florida, I mean LOVES, is my Dad. He can’t get enough of the heat. The hotter and humid, the better. (You gotta be kidding!) Nope, it’s true!
This brings me to “Pig’s Knuckles and Sauerkraut”………….(oooooh, might make a good title for a kids book, huh!?
We would always, once a week, eat that pig meat stuff with salted potatoes. Mom would make it special for Dad. This economical tradition was continued in Florida.
One day, I called my Mom, ( the early days of Florida life), she proudly announced, she was cooking pig’s knuckle and sauerkraut!
My response was………….”they have that here in Florida?” “That’s a winter dish!”
This is rough for me to write, Mom died 7yrs. ago, July 4th.
She would pick a holiday!
